Ingredients
- 1 pkg. or 1 T. dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups milk, warmed
- 3 T. (1/3 stick) butter, softened
- 1 1/2 t. salt
- 1 T. sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour

Sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk and butter in a large mixing bowl, stir, and let stand to dissolve for a minute or so. Add the salt, sugar, and 2 cups of the flour. With a wooden spoon, beat vigorously for about 2 minutes, or with the paddle attachment of a heavy-duty mixer beat for about 1 minute. Add the remaining flour and beat well. Pour the batter into the greased loaf pan and smooth the top with your wet fingers. With a sharp knife, make a slash lengthwise down the center. Cover lightly and let rise to the top of the pan, about 30 to 45 minutes. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for about 45 minutes. Turn out of the pan and cool on a rack.
