Ingredients

  • Part One:
  • 3 pints ripe blackberries
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp butter
  • Combine in a large pan and simmer while preparing the dough.
  • Part Two:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • Milk
  • Sift the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder into a mixing bowl. Add egg. Mix well, then add enough milk to make a stiff batter.
  • Bring Part One to a boil and drop the dumpling batter, a spoonful at a time, into the boiling mixture. Do not crowd dumplings. Be sure they have room to expand. Cover and cook 15 minutes. Can be eaten cold, or hot with ice cream or whipped topping.
