  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature, chopped into cubes
  • 3 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped finely
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup milk

Preparation

Step 1

Mix unsweetened chocolate and butter in a medium bowl.
In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium-high heat until it comes to a boil. Pour boiling milk over chocolate and butter. Let sit for five minutes.
Stir chocolate, milk and butter mixture until smooth. Using an electric mixer, add one cup of powdered sugar and beat on low.
Add vanilla and a second cup of powdered sugar. Continue to beat on low. Add remaining two cups of powdered sugar, one cup at a time.
Once all powdered sugar is added, beat mixture on medium speed until frosting is smooth and spreadable.
