Ingredients
- Crumb Topping for French Apple Pie:
- 6 c sliced, pared, juicy apples (about 6 large apples)
- 1/2 to 2/3 c sugar (depends upon sweetness of apples)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1/2 c oleo - softened
- 1/2 c brown sugar - packed gently
- 1 c flour
- Pastry
- 9 " Deep Pie Pan

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven 450 degrees
Line a deep 9" pie pan with pastry
Then chill while preparing apples
In large mixing bowl, mix together apples, sugar, cinnamon and 2 tbsp flour
Place in chilled pastry lined pan
Top with either another pastry layer or Crumb topping
If making French Apple, make Crumb topping:
Cream together butter and brown sugar
With pastry blender or fork, work in 1 cup flour to make crumb mixture
Sprinkle crumb mixture over apples.
Place pie pan over foil or pan liner to catch any possible spills
Bake 15 minutes in hot oven (450 degrees)
Then reduce heat to moderate oven (350 degrees) -- DO NOT REMOVE PIE WHILE DOING THIS/REDUCING HEAT
Bake 20-30 minutes longer or until done. To keep crust from getting too brown, cover edges with foil
place on cooling rack to cool
Serve plain or with whipped cream or ice cream
