Royal Icing and "Frosting 101"

By

Decorate cutout cookies with Royal Icing. Here, our how-to secrets.

Royal Icing may be used to ice "Rolled Cookies" (recipe in collection).

To frost cookies using a single color, thin the icing with water until it drips from the back of a spoon. Dip the top of the cookie into the icing, spreading off excess with a spatula.

To frost cookies using two colors, place one color of icing in a resealable plastic bag and snip off a small corner. Pipe an outline of a shape, then fill it in with the same color icing using a small spatula; let dry completely. Spread second color of icing on the remaining surface of cookie with a small spatula.
