Sugar Cookies

• 3/4 cup shortening (part butter or margarine)
• 1 cup sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 2 1/2 cups Flour
• 1 tsp. baking powder
• 1 tsp. salt

Preparation

Step 1

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla thoroughly. Stir flour, baking powder, and salt together; blend in. Chill at least and hour.

Heat oven to 400ºF.

Divide dough in half. Roll each half 1/4 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes with 2- to 2 1/2-inch cookie cutters. Sprinkle with granulated sugar. Place on cookie sheet.

Bake 6 to 8 minutes or until edges are light brown. Remove from cookie sheet. Cool on wire rack.
