Ingredients

  • Coconut topping:
  • 1 devils food cake mix
  • chocolate frosting
  • Skor bars
  • Gold ribbon to tie together
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 3 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Preparation

Step 1

Prepare cake mix as directed. Use 5 Alpo cans, generously greased.
Divide batter between the five cans, Fill to only 1/2 full. Bake cakes at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Meanwhile, start the coconut topping. Combine sugar, milk, butter and egg yolks in a heavy saucepan. Cook and stir over medium-low heat until thickened and a thermometer reads 160 degrees. Remove from the heat. Stir in vanilla; fold in coconut and pecans. Cool until frosting reaches spreading consistency.

Use the prepared chocolate frosting to coat the sides only of each cake. Break up Skor bars and stand, upright, in a circle around the cakes; tie a little bow around the Kit-Kats to keep them together. Top with the coconut frosting.
