Ingredients

  • 2 pkg dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 5-6 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 Tbs butter, melted

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in the 1/2 cup warm water and let stand 5 minutes. Pour the cup of boiling water into a large mixing bowl and stir in honey. Cool to lukewarm, then aqdd disssolved yeast. Blend in 2 cups of flour, then cover bowl, place over hot water and allow mixture to double in size. When doubled, punch down and beat in the 3/4 cup lukewarm water, salt, melted butter and remaining flour. Dough will be stiff. Knead on a floured surface until very smooth. Place doutgh in greased bowl, cover and allow to rise to double in size. Punch down, shape into two loaves and put in loaf pans. Cover and let rise until well rounded above pan tops.

Brush tops with melted butter and bake in 350' F oven for 35-40 minutes
