Weekend Morning French Toast

  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 3 tsp cinnamon, divided use
  • 3 tart apples (granny smith)
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 loaf of Italian or French bread cut into 1 inch slices
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla



Step 1

Combine sugar, butter and 1 tsp. cinnamon in a bowl. Peel, core and thinly slice apples. Add apples and cranberries to bowl; toss to coat well. Spread mixture in 13x9x2 inch baking dish. Arrange sliced bread on top. Combine eggs, milk, vanilla, and remaining 2 tsp. cinnamon. Mix well. Pour over bread. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 40 mins. Uncover and bake 5 more minutes. Let stand 5 mins. before serving.
Note: use bread that does not have a crisp crust
