Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk or lowfat milk
  • 2 tbsp packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp grated orange peel
  • 1 (8 ounce) loaf Italian bread, cut into 10 slices
  • 1 tsp butter or margarine or cooking spray

Preparation

Step 1

In a large baking dish, combine eggs, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and orange peel. Beat egg mixture until well-combined. Place bread slices in egg mixture. Soak for 1 minute. Turn over each slice. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (you might need to stack the pieces to accommodate them all).

In the morning, preheat oven to 400 F. Butter a cookie sheet or coat with cooking spray. Place bread slices on the cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Turn slices and bake 10 minutes or until golden.
