Ingredients

  • 1 c. Crisco Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 T. milk
  • 1 t. vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 t. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 t. cream of tartar
  • 1 t. salt
  • Frosting, sprinkles optional

Preparation

Step 1

Beat shortening, sugar and brown sugar in large bowl with electric mixed on medium speed until creamy.
Add milk and vanilla.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt in separate large bowl.
Add gradually to shortening mixture, beating until well blended.
Cover and chill 1 hour.
Heat oven to 350.
Roll out 1/3 of dough at a time on lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness.
Cut out shapes with floured 2-3 inch cookie cutters.
Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
Sprinkle with sparkling sugar and sprinkles if desired.
Bake 8-10 min or until edges are lightly golden brown.
Cool on baking sheet 2 minutes.
Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
Frost and decorate as desired.
