Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup(125ml) soft non-hydrogenated margarine or unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) brown sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp. (2 ml) vanilla
  • 1 cup (250 ml) whole wheat flour
  • 1-1/4 cups (300 ml) large-flake rolled oats
  • 1/2 tsp. (2 ml) baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. (2 ml) baking soda
  • 1 cup (250 ml) walnuts
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

1. In a large bowl, cream margarine with sugars until light. Beat in egg whites and vanilla.

2. In a separate bowl, combine flours, oats, baking powder and baking soda. Stir together well.

3. Stir flour mixture into margarine mixture. Stir in walnuts and chocolate chips.

4. Drop batter by the tablespoon onto parchment- lined baking sheets and press down. Bake in a preheated 325 degree (160 C) oven for 12 to 14 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool on racks.

Note: parchment paper is not necessary, works fine just dropping batter on baking sheets. No need to grease the baking sheet.
