Preparation

Step 1

i am really thinking about trying this recipe out really

I´ve read some of you used rum, can you tell me how much to use. Tks!

I would start with a tsp of rum, then taste the batter a little. add more if needed. What I am doing right now, is following this recipe, but instead of pecans, I am folding in blueberries.... then drizzle with the vanilla glaze.... omg, so yummy smelling right now.

When using these recipes, can you use milk in place of water?

anything with pecans and nuts can not go wrong. definitely trying this recipe.

making it again, this time with dark chocolate fudge cake mix. This recipe is almost fail-proof. I love how moist and flavorful it is. I leave out the sugar too and have used applesauce for the oil too.

This one of the best cakes. I use it when I need a quick and impressive cake. I make it in layers and frost with homemade cream cheese icing!

Ducan Hines makes a wonderful banana cake mix that would work great for this recipe!

Try using banana extract in place of the vanilla when making the cake mix.WOW!!!!! Eveyone loves it

This cake was awesome everyone at home loved it. I did two boxes of cake so used twice the amount on all ingredients and instead of using pecans I used almonds since that is what I had on hand. I also used cream cheese frosting and it came out great. I baked it in a square pan and had no problem.

The tips provided were most helpful. I did make a few changes with the cake. I omitted the sugar and used applesauce instead of oil. I baked it in a 9 X 13 pan for about 42 minutes. For the frosting I used an 8 ounce cream cheese, about 3/4 box of confectioner sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 3/4 of a stick of butter, and chopped nuts. YUMMY!

I am new at this. Could you please tell me how much applesauce to use instead of the oil?

use the same amt of applesauce as you would any oil amount in a recipe.....

This was one rich, incredible cake. The next time I will leave out the sugar. The frosting makes it sweet enough. I also added a little mashed banana to the frosting and whipped it. I used their whipped vanilla frosting..

I made this as directed but used some leftover cream cheese icing. My family called it "awesome." I'm sure our awesome God is many times more awesome, but they really liked it.

How much rum or rum extract do i need to add....i am a young baker and love to try this recipe.

Delicious, but a little sweet for my taste. Next time I will reduce the sugar in the cake to 1/3 cup and will use a thin glaze versus the frosting and will top the cake with a few finely chopped nuts.

You might also try omitting the sugar. I do not remember what Duncan Hines recipe I made that also called for 1/2 cup of sugar but since I figured that the cake was already sweet enough without the extra sugar I omitted the sugar.

This recipe is great with white cake or yellow cake. I also use the extra mashed bananas on top of the batter. When mixing, I add butter pecan extract.
Fabulous with chocolate icing.
