Ingredients

  • 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 packages dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 cup very warm water
  • 3 eggs
  • butter and sugar for dipping

Step 1

Mix 1 1/4 cup flour, sugar, salt and undissolved yeast. Add butter. Gradually add water and beat 2 minutes.

Add eggs and 1/4 cup flour. Beat 2 minutes.

Stir in enough flour to make soft dough. Turn onto floured board and knead until smooth and elastic (8-10 minutes).

Divide dough into 3 pieces. Divide each one into 8 pieces; form each into smooth ball. Dip each ball into melted butter, then sugar. Place in greased cake pan. Cover tightly with plastic wrap, then aluminum foil. Place in freezer.

Remove from freezer. Let stand until thawed (about 3 hours). Let rise until more than doubled; about 2 1/4 hours.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
