Ingredients
- 1/2 C shortening
- 1 1/2 C sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 oz red food coloring
- 2 T cocoa
- 1 t vinegar
- 1 t salt
- 1 C buttermilk
- 2 1/2 C cake flour
- 1 t vanilla
- 1 t baking soda
- Frosting
- 5 T Flour
- 1 1/2 C milk
- 1 1/4 C powdered sugar
- 1 t vanilla
- 1 1/4 C butter

Preparation
Step 1
preheat over to 350
Cream shortening and sugar
Add eggs one at a time
make a paste of food coloring and cocoa and add to mixture
combine salt and buttermilk add alternately with the flour
add vanilla, baking soda and vinegar
pour into 2 greased and floured 9 inch pans lined with parchment paper
bake for 35 minutes cool and split cakes horizontally so you have 4 layers
Frosting
cook flour and milk in a pan over medium high heat till thick, set aside and let cool uncovered, do not cool in fridge
cream sugar and flour beat till fluffy add to flour/mi;k mixture, beat until Fluffy, can add addition food coloring if desired
