Ingredients

  • 5 pounds cheap roast (round, rump or boston)
  • 1 Tbs salt
  • 1 Tbs pepper
  • 1 Tbs Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp fennel seed
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1 10 1/2 oz can beef consomme
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

Preparation

Step 1

Place roast in crock pot. Cover meat with spices and add consomme and water. Cover and cook on low 10-12 hours. When meat is done, remove from broth and strain spices from consomme. Shred meat and let stand in strained liquid for several hours or overnight in refrigerator. When cold, remove fat from meat.

Heat in crock pot again several hours before serving. Serve on steak buns with juices for dipping.

Great for large nunmbers of people. Also great to serve when unsure of time of arrival of guests.
