Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb Bacon, diced
  • 1 1/2 lb Ground Beef
  • 1 cup Chopped Onion
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Green Bell Pepper
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 3 cans (15 Ounces Each) Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 Six Ounce Cans Tomato Paste
  • 3/4 cup Red Wine
  • 3/4 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Chopped Flat Leaf Parsley
  • 2 1/2 tsp Dried Basil
  • 2 1/2 tsp Dried Oregano
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Dried Thyme
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 Small Bay Leaf, crumbled
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper, to taste

Preparation

Step 1

In a Dutch oven, fry bacon until crisp; remove bacon and set aside. Add ground beef to pan and cook until no longer pink. Stir in onion, green pepper, and garlic. Cook and stir a few minutes, then add all remaining ingredients and reserved bacon; stir well. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer uncovered for 2-1/2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Serve over hot cooked pasta of choice.
