Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 2 egg whites, slightly beaten
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • Smucker's Cherry or Strawberry preserves

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Cream together the sugar and butter until fluffy. Add the 2 egg yolks, vanilla, and salt. Beat well. Gradually add the flour, mixing well.

Shape the dough into 3/4 inch balls; dip in the slightly beaten egg whites, then roll in the finely chopped walnuts. Place the balls 1-inch apart on greased cookies sheets.

Press down the center of each ball using your thumb.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15-17 minutes. Cool slightly. Fill the centers with the strawberry or cherry preserves. Remove cookies from the sheet and cool on rack.
