Ingredients

  • 1 stick unsalted butter, melted, plus more for the dish
  • 4 golden delicious apples, peeled, cored and cut into 3/4" pieces
  • 2 c blackberries
  • 1/3 c granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
  • Finely grated zest and juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1 c crushed sugar cones
  • 1/2 c packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 c chopped almonds
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for topping

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 1 1/2 qt. baking dish. Toss the apples, blackberries, granulated sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, lemon zest and juice, flour and 4 tbsp melted butter in a large bowl.

In another bowl, combine the cones, brown sugar, remaining 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp nutmeg, almonds, salt and remaining 4 tbsp melted butter.

Pour half of the apple berry mixture into the prepared baking dish. Scatter one half of the cone mixture on top. Spread the remaining apple berry mixture on top, then sprinkle with the remaining cone mixture. Bake until the apples are soft and the topping is golden brown, 40-45 mins. Transfer the dish to a rack and let sit 10 mins before serving. Top with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
