Ingredients
- 1 pkg. (8 oz.) pitted dates, coarsely chopped
- 1 1/2 cups boiling water
- 1 3/4 cup sifted flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 Tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 5" loaf pan.
Combine dates with boiling water; let cool to room temp.
Sift flour with powder, soda and salt; set aside.
Meanwhile, beat egg, sugar, butter and vanilla until smooth. Add date mixture, then flour mixture, and mix well by hand. Stir in nuts.
Bake about one hour.
