    onions

    lb. ground beef

  • 1

    egg

  • 1

    tablespoon Dijon mustard

  • 1

    teaspoon salt, divided

  • 1/2

    teaspoon black pepper, divided

  • 1/2

    teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1

    tablespoon canola oil

  • 2

    cloves garlic

  • 3

    cups low sodium beef broth

  • 1

    tablespoon cornstarch, mixed with 1 tablespoon cold water

Directions

Cut 1 onion in half. Grate half and slice the other half. Slice the 2nd onion as well. In a mixing bowl, combine grated onion, ground beef, egg, mustard, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper and garlic powder. Make into 4 patties. Heat oil in skillet over medium high heat. Sear patties for 2 minutes on each side. Remove to a paper towel lined plate. Pour off fat from skillet,sauté sliced onions for 10 minutes over medium heat. Add garlic cloves and cook 2 minutes. Pour in broth, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook, covered for 5 minutes. Stir in cornstarch mixture. Add patties and simmer covered for 10 minutes.
