Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar, plus additional sugar to roll cookies in
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups margarine or butter or shortening
- 3/4 cup molasses
- 2 eggs
- 4 cups flour
- 3 tsp cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4 tsp baking soda

Preparation
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine sugars, butter, molasses and eggs; beat until creamy. In a separate large bowl, mix flour, spices and baking soda until combined.
Add flour to molasses mixture and mix until combined. Chill dough.
Pinch off globs of dough and roll into balls about the size of golf balls; roll in sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 325F for 14 minutes.
Do not overbake; you want them to turn out chewy and flexible, not crisp.
Remove from oven and place on a solid wooden board to cool(if you put them on a wire rack to cool they may become more crsip than you like).
