Ingredients

  • Topping:
  • 2 c vetetable shortening
  • 1 1/2 c sugar
  • 2 egg yolks beaten
  • 1 tbsp anise seed
  • 6 c flour sifted
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2-1 c sweet wine, or water
  • 1 c sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Step 1

Sift together, flour, baking powder, and salt. Beat sugar and shortening in large mixing bowl on medium speed until fluffy, about 2 min.

Beat in anise and egg yolks until combined, about 2 min.
Lower the speed of the mixer to low, and add flour mixture and wine until combined. Dough will be sticky. Form dough into a round disk and divide dough into quarters. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface. Cut into the shapes of the season. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Mix cinnamon and 1 c sugar together. Dip or sprinkle cookies with cinnamon sugar mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 min. until golden brown.
