Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 dozen (1 1/2-inch diameter) chocolate-covered mint candies

Preheat oven to 350 F. In a medium saucepan, melt butter and chocolate over low heat. Remove from heat; transfer to a large bowl. Add sugar and vanilla; beat until well blended. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. In a medium bowl, sift together next 3 ingredients. Add dry ingredients to chocolate mixture; stir until well blended. Pour 1/2 of batter into a greased 8-inch square baking pan. Place mint candies evenly on batter. Top with remaining batter. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until set in center. Cool completely in pan. Cut into 1 1/2-inch squares. Store in an airtight container.
