Preparation

Step 1

For Dough:

In a 2 quart saucepan heat milk just till warm. Stir together warm milk, yeast, oil and salt.

Add 1/2 of the flour and blend together thoroughly. Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough that can be kneaded.

Knead lightly on a floured board. Return to a lightly greased bowl, turning once to grease surface.

Cover and let rise in a warm place until double (approximately 45 minutes.)

For Filling:

Cook in a 2 quart saucepan over medium heat the onion and garlic in the oil until tender, but not brown.

Add pork and cook until browned.

Stir water and soy sauce together into cornstarch; add the 2 tablespoons sugar and ginger.

Add mixture to pork mixture. Cook and stir until thickened; remove from heat. Keep in refrigerator until ready to use.

Dough Prep:

When the rising period is finished; punch the dough down, turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Shape into 10 balls (or more depending on size preference.)

Cover and let rest 5 minutes.

On a lightly floured surface, flatten each ball of dough to a 3 1/2" circle. Place a rounded spoonful of pork mixture in center of each dough circle.

Bring edges of dough up and around filling, stretching a little until edges just meet; pinch to seal.

To bake:

place 5 buns in a greased chef pan. Bake at 375 oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
