Ingredients

  • 1/2

    cup butter

  • 1/2

    cup sugar

  • 3

    egg yolks

  • 1/3

    cup milk

  • 1

    cup flour

  • 1

    tsp. baking powder

  • 1

    tsp. vanilla

  • 3

    egg whites

  • 1

    cup sugar

Directions

Cream butter - add sugar & egg yolks. Add milk, flour, baking powder & vanilla. Spread in 2 tins. Beat whites to stiff froth and add 1 cup sugar. Spread half on each layer. Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired. Bake in 350 oven for 20-25 minutes. Let cool and then place one layer upside down (meringue down). Spread with whipped cream and fruit (strawberries, crushed pineapple, etc.), and place other layer on top.
