- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 egg whites
- 1 cup sugar
Cream butter - add sugar & egg yolks.
Add milk, flour, baking powder & vanilla.
Spread in 2 tins.
Beat whites to stiff froth and add 1 cup sugar.
Spread half on each layer.
Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired.
Bake in 350 oven for 20-25 minutes.
Let cool and then place one layer upside down (meringue down).
Spread with whipped cream and fruit (strawberries, crushed pineapple, etc.), and place other layer on top.
