Ingredients
- 3 pounds sugar (use a 2-cup measuring cup - 3 HEAPING)
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1/8 pound (2 Tablespoons) butter
- 1 cup white Karo

Step 1
Mix together in large pan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves a bit. Put lid on and cook a while. Take lid off - put thermometer in and let it go to 238 º. Add one square (1 oz) of semi-sweet chocolate on top of mixture. Let cool to about 110 º. Sprinkle lightly with salt and add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat with mixer along with 1/2 cup evaporated milk until it begins to lose gloss. Mix in 1 cup chopped walnuts. Mix with wooden spoon until it begins to set (starts to lose gloss). Turn out onto a buttered pan. Cut into squares when cool. Keep covered.
