Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup boiling water (may need slightly less)

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 13 by 9 inch baking pan. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, ginger, allspice, sugar, oil, molasses, and eggs with an electric mixer on medium, beating for at least three minutes, or until the batter is very smooth. Quickly mix in the boiling water (you may want to use slightly less). Pour into pan. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until knife inserted into center of cake comes out clean. Cool in the pan. If you want, drizzle with melted butter and sprinkle with nutmeg.
