Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • dash of salt

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream sugars, shortening, butter, and vanilla. Add peanut butter and egg. Combine flour, soda, baking powder, and salt. Add flour mixture and mix well. Refrigerate about 2 hours or until dough is firm.
Shape dough into 1 1/4" balls. Place about 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten in crisscross pattern with fork dipped into sugar. Bake 9 to 10 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute and remove from cookie sheet. Cool completely.

Variation: Upon removing cookies from oven, immediately press Hershey kiss or chocolate star in center of each cookie.
