MOM'S MOLASSES COOKIES

• 3/4 c shortening
• 1 1/4 c sugar, divided
• 1 egg
• 1/4 c molasses
• 2 T milk
• 1 t vanilla
• 2 1/2 c flour
• 1 1/2 t baking soda
• 1 t cinnamon
• 3/4 t salt
• 3/4 / t nutmeg

Preparation

Step 1

Cream shortening and 1 c sugar. Beat in the egg. molasses, milk, and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients, gradually add to creamed mixture. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour. Roll into 1 1/4 in. balls, roll in remaing sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-14 minutes or until tops crack and edges are slightly firm.
