Ingredients
- 1 pkg dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tbs unsalted butter
- 2 tbs solid vegetable shortening
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups milk
- 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour

Step 1
Proof the yeast in the warm water with the sugar. Place the butter, shortening, and salt in a large bowl. Scald the milk and add to the bowl. Stir until butter and shortening melt. Allow to cool slightly; add the flour and stir. Add the proofed yeast, mix thoroughly and knead for 5 minutes. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put in warm place until dough has doubled in bulk, about 45 minutes. Preheat oven 375 degrees. Punch the dough down and turn out onto a floured board. Roll dough 1/2 inch thick. Cut into 1 inch rounds. Place in parchment lined pan, place in warm place until doubled, 30 minutes. Bake 15 to 20 minutes.
