Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground chuck
- 1 tsp ground pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 TBS barbecue sauce
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 2 cups wood chips

Preparation
Step 1
1. Soak wood chips in water for 15 minutes. Drain and place on foil. Wrap into a pouch and poke holes in top.
2. Break meat into small pieces. Add 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp pepper and BBQ sauce. Knead gently and mix well. Form into 4 one inch patties.
3. Mix together garlic and onion powders, remaining salt and pepper. Sprinkle both sides of patties with seasoning mix.
4. Heat charcoal to fine gray ash, place on one side of grill, place foil packet of wood chips on top of coals. Cover with lid with vents open. Once wood chips smoke heavily, place burgers on grill, NOT directly over foil packet, but over coals. Grill 5 minutes on each side, then move to cooler side of grill and cook an additional 3-4 minutes per side until desired fondness. Let set 5 minutes before serving.
