Caramel Fudge Brownies

This recipe came from my very special mother-on-law, and although she's no longer with us, her recipe continues to be a family favorite.

Ingredients
- 18-1/2 oz pkg German chocolate cake mix
- 3/4 c. butter, melted
- 5 oz can evaporated milk, divided
- 14 oz pkg caramels, unwrapped
- 1 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Step 1
Combine dry cake mix, butter and 1/3 c. evaporated milk. Spread half of batter into a greased 13 x 9 baking pan (this later will be very thin). Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. Immediately after removing from oven, sprinkle brownies with chocolate chips. While crust is baking, melt caramels and remining evaporated milk in a microwave-safe bowl for 3 minutes on high setting. Stir caramel mixture and pour over brownies; do not mix. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-17 minutes.
