French Toast / Bread Pudding

Ingredients
- 1 loaf challah ( about 1 pound) cut into 1 inch slices
- 3 cups milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 10 large eggs
- 1/4 cup +1tbl sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbl margarine or butter

Preparation
Step 1
Grease shallow 31/2 to 4 quart baking dish.Arrange bread slices overlapping slightly. In medium bowl whisk milk, salt, eggs and 1/4 cup sugar. Slowly pour over bread.
Prick bread so it absorbs mixture. Spoon unabsorbed mixture over bread. In cup mix cinnamon and remaining tablespoon sugar. Sprinkle over bread and dot with margarine. Cover & refrigerate 30 minutes or overnight.
Heat oven 350 degrees. Uncover bread & bake 45 minutes. Serve bread with banana sauce.
Maple Banana Sauce
Non stick 12 inch pan, melt 2 t/l margarine or butter on medium heat. Add 6 medium firm bananas thinly sliced. Cook 3 mins. Lightly brown. Add 1 cup maple syrup. Boil 2 to 3 mins until lightly thickened. Serve warm.
