  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 T. sugar
  • 1 pkg granulated yeast
  • 1 T. oil

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in warm water. In large bowl, mix all remaining ingredients, and lastly add yeast mixture. Knead dough on floured board about 10 minutes. Add more flour if necessary. Cover and let rise in greased bowl in warm place until it doubles in size. Punch down dough and let rise and additional 30 minutes. Cut in two. Shape into long rolls, slash tops and let rise about 1 hour longer. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes, or less if loaves sound hollow when tapped on bottom. Bake on lightly greased pan. This dough can be used for fried dough by pinching pieces of dough, patting to flatten, and frying in hot oil until golden brown. Drain and sprinkle with sugar.
