- 2 C flour
- 1/4 C sugar
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 C butter
- 3/4 C raisins
- 1 C milk

Step 1
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Grease baking tray, or use parchment paper on it.
Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs. Stir in raisins. Add milk and mix to make a smooth dough. Add more milk if necessary.
Knead 10 seconds on a lightly floured surface. Roll or pat to about 3/4" thick, and either cut into individual scones with a biscuit cutter, or cut into wedges.
Baking time: approximately 12 minutes for individual scones, 15 - 20 minutes loaf style (wedges).
Brush tops with melted butter after removing from the oven.
Variation:
Cheese: Use the method above, but omit sugar and add 2/3 C grated cheddar cheese and 1/2 tsp. dried oregano to the dry mixture before adding milk. Top each scone with a little additional cheese before baking.
