Ingredients

  • 1 c molasses
  • 2 1/2 c flour
  • 1 c hot water
  • 1 T cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 c brown sugar
  • 1 T flour
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1 1/2 T cocoa
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c cocoa
  • 1 c water
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 T butter
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Step 1

For topping, mix molasses, 1 c hot water and 1 tsp vanilla. Set aside. Cream egg, brown sugar and shortening, add ¼ c cocoa, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and 2 ½ c flour. Add molasses mixture.
Bring 1 c water to boil; add remaining ingredients and cook until thickened. Pour into 3 unbaked pie shells; add topping. Bake 1 hour at 350. Frost with chocolate frosting if desired.
