Ingredients

  • Cookies:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • Butter Frosting:
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp milk

Preparation

Step 1

Cookies:
In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, soda and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients. Cover, and chill dough for at least 3 hours (or overnight).

Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets (parchments paper can be used).

Bake 8 to 10 minutes in preheated 375 degree oven. Cool completely.

Butter Frosting:
Cream together butter & sugar. Stir in vanilla, add milk gradually and beat until frosting is right consistency for spreading or decorating. Food coloring can be added.
