Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup shortening or butter or 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 teaspoon each of salt, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

Step 1

Combine all ingredients and roll into balls and then dip in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees until flattened out and cracked, about 10 minutes. Leave on sheet until hardened and transfer to parchment paper to cool.
