Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups (560 ml) self-rising flour
- 1 cup (250 ml) powdered (confectioner's) sugar
- 1/2 tsp (2 ml) salt
- 1/4 tsp (5 ml) cream of tartar (tartaric acid)
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml) baking soda
- 1 cup (250 ml) butter (2 sticks), softened
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1 Tbs (15 ml) water
- 2 tsp (10 ml) vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) walnuts, chopped

Preparation
Step 1
Combine flour, sugar, salt, cream of tartar and soda in mixing bowl. Cut in butter until fine. Add remaining ingredients, mixing to form a dough. Chill for easier handling. Shape by teaspoonfuls into logs, balls, or crescents. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350F (180C) for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. While warm, roll in powdered sugar. Makes 84 cookies.
