Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp shortening ( liquid Crisco)
  • 1/2 cup half & half
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Step 1

1. Combine flour, salt baking soda in a medium bowl and stir to combine. Lightly beat the egg in separate bowl and combine with sugar, butter and shortening. Mix well until smooth. Add half & half, milk, buttermilk and vanilla and whisk well. Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture while whisking until smooth. If possible for best results, cover and chill overnight , but you can use immediately.

2. Rub or spray a light coating of vegetable oil on waffle iron and preheat. If batter is chilled allow to warm up at room temperature while iron is heating. Spoon 1/3 cup to 1/2 cup batter into ready waffle iron.
If you are a fan of stuff in waffles, you can add chopped nuts, butterscotch chips, chocolate or fruit to the batter.
