Ingredients

  • 2 c flour (1 c)
  • 1/2 c Brer Rabbit (1/4)
  • 1 1/2 c brown sugar (3/4)
  • 1 1/2 c hot water (3/4)
  • 4 T shortening (2 T
  • 2 tsp baking soda (1)
  • 2 eggs (1 egg)
  • 2 pie shells
  • 2 c molasses (1 c)

Preparation

Step 1

Mix flour, brown sugar and shortening until fine crumbs. Reserve 2 cups (1 cup) for top of pies. To the remaining crumbs add beaten eggs, molasses, and 1 ½ c (3/4 c) water; mix well. Dissolve 2 tsp (1 tsp) baking soda in ½ c (1/4 c) boiling water. Add to liquid mixture. Divide into 2 pie shells. Cover with crumbs. Bake 450, 10 minutes. Reduce to 350, 30 minutes.
