Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 4 T. butter
  • 4 T. flour
  • 2 1/2 c. milk
  • 5-6 c. potatoes. thinly sliced
  • Optional: Ham, diced or sliced
  • Dash of salt & pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Heat milk in microwave till warm. Cook onion in butter till tender. Stir in flour, dash of salt & pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook, stirring until bubbly. Remove from heat.

Place half of potatoes ( and ham, if using) in casserole dish. Cover with half of sauce mixture. Repeat with one more layer.

Bake, covered, in a 350 oven for 35 minutes. Uncover & bake 30 more minutes or until potatoes are tender. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
