Ingredients
- 24 cabbage leaves
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 cup uncooked rice
- 1 small chopped onion
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp thyme
- 2 tbsp shortening
- 2 - 8 oz cans tomato sauce
- 1-2 cups water
- 1 tbsp lemon juice

Preparation
Step 1
Cover cabbage leaves with boiling water and let stand for 5 minutes (until limp); drain. Combine next 7 ingredients. Place equal portions of mixture in center of each leaf. Fold sides over meat; roll up and fasten with toothpick. Brown in shallow baking dish. Combine tomato sauce, brown sugar, water and lemon juice. Pour over rolls, cover and bake at 350F for 40 minutes.
