Chocolate Chip Torte

One of my favorite cakes when I was little. I love the chocolate chips and nuts on the top.

Ingredients

• 1 3/4 c flour
• 3 T cocoa
• 1/2 teas salt
• 1 c dates, finely chopped
• 1 c boiling water
• 1 teas baking soda
• 2 eggs beaten
• 1/2 c butter
• 1/2 c shortening
• 1 c sugar
• 1 teas vanilla
• 1 c chopped nuts
• 6 oz pkg chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Mix dates, boiling water, and soda. Let cool. Mix together flour, cocoa, and salt. Cream shortening and add sugar, eggs, and vanilla until fluffy. Add flour mixture and date mixture alternately, beating well after each addition. Put in a greased 9 x 13 pan. Put chocolate chips and nuts on top. Poke them down. Bake at 350 for 40 to 45 minutes.
