Ingredients

  • 1 stick of butter, chilled & cut in 1” chunks
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup whole nuts
  • 1/2 cup rice crisp cereal
  • Fruit of choice

Preparation

Step 1

In a food processor, pulse together the butter, flour, brown sugar, oats, and nutmeg until the butter is in pea-sized chunks. Add the nuts and pulse twice. Add the cereal, pulsing just enough to stir in. Sprinkle over fruit and cover with a paper towel. This will prevent splatters, hold in the heat, and allow the steam to escape so the topping doesn’t get mushy. Microwave on 70% power for 2 – 6 minutes, depending on the size of the bowl and the density of the fruit.

Note: This topping is convenient to have on hand for entertaining. It can be made in quantity and stored in the refrigerator or freezer. Use it over peaches, berries, or other fruits.
