APPLES****Slow Cooker Apple Butter

By

Great for both, good on many things. I made double this quantity, which made approximately 4 cups. Even with the Granny Smith apples, I found it a touch on the sweet side so I think I'd reduce the sugars just a bit.

Preparation

Step 1

Place the apples in a slow cooker. Top with sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg and salt and mix well.

Cover and cook on high 5 hours, or overnight on low for 10 hours, stirring once halfway, until the apples are tender and dark brown. (I used the high option)

Uncover and puree with an immersion blender.

Cook on high uncovered 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

Divide into 1 1/3 to 1 1/2 cup servings. Put one serving in a mason jar in the fridge and the remaining in ziplock bags for the freezer.

Serve on toast, stirred into oatmeal or Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, served over pancakes or biscuits, graham crackers, etc, and for savory dishes such as roast pork or on a sandwich. Try grilled turkey and brie sandwiches with apple butter.
