Ingredients

  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 c seedless raisins
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 c dried currants
  • 1 1 1 c mixed candied citrus peel
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 c rum
  • 1 rum over fruits and soak for 1 hour, then drain and keep rum for dough
  • 1/4 1/4 1/4 c warm water
  • 2 2 2 pkg dried yeast
  • 1 1 1 T sugar
  • 2 2 2 T flour
  • 10 flour, yeast and sugar, mix with water and let stand for about 10 min.
  • 3/4 3/4 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 1 1 cup milk
  • Melt butter, take pan off flame and pour milk into butter, add reserved rum
  • 5 5 5 c flour
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 tsp almond extrct
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 tsp lemon peel
  • 2 2 2 eggs
  • Add these ingredients plus the melted butter/milk/rum on top of the yeast sponge in your Kitchenaid, blend slow, then beat until dough is smooth and holds together.
  • 1 1 1 c slivered almond
  • to reserved fruits and almonds into dough by hand, place into greased bowl, turn to grease top and cover, let rise until doubled.

Step 1

Heat oven to 375, bake for 45 minutes or until golden and crusty.

Transfer to wire racks and cool completely.

Just before serving, sprinkle with confectioner's sugar or glaze with lemon glaze.
