Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 4 -5 tablespoons cold water

Preparation

Step 1

In food processor, pulse flour, salt, butter and vegetable shortening until in large crumbs.

Add cold water; pulse until mixture starts to form a ball. (Do not over mix).

Shape dough into round disc.

Cover with plastic wrap.

Freeze for 10 minutes until easy to handle. (Note: Another recipe calls for refrigerating the dough for 30 minute before rolling and refrigerating for another 30 minutes in the pie pan prior to baking.)

Roll dough into 11 inch circle on floured surface.

Gently fold the circle of dough in half and then in half again so that you can lift it without tearing it.

Fit dough into 9 1/2 inch deep dish pie plate.

Turn edge under and flute.

Pour in filling and bake at 350F for 40-50 minutes. (Note: For cream pie, prebake shell for 25-30 minutes.)
