Ingredients

  • 1 c. dark molasses
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 tbsp. baking soda
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 well beated egg.

Step 1

Combine molasses, sugar, shortening and baking soda in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil slowly for 5 minutes and cool thoroughly. Mix flour, salt and spices. Add egg to molasses and into dry ingredients. Roll 1/4" thick. cut cookies. Bake 370 F for 8 - 10 minutes.
